Our dear friend Phyllis…
Phyllis Genszler was a long time member of the Frick Park Lawn Bowling Club. She passed away on November 18th and will be sorely missed.
Phyllis was not just a bowler in our club. She served as club secretary for many years where she brought a business like expertise to correspondences, membership and communication to include even inactive members. She had her finger on the pulse of the club. She was kind and considerate of everyone she met, and would often volunteer to sit out a picnic game so a late comer could play. She helped with coaching sessions, but never pushed into the limelight.
She and her soul mate Jack Philips took on the chore of looking after the flower pots and beds of flowers that add a sparkle of color to our solid green greens. Each year they planted, weeded and watered quietly while no one else was around, They never took money for the plants, or for any of the other items they would purchase for the club house or picnics. Their work did not end with the flowering plants, but often they pulled weeds from the lawn or cleaned out the ditches.
Phyllis had a variety of interests beyond the lawn bowling. She enjoyed Yoga, Bridge, Church, Pirate Baseball and caring for another garden just inside the Homewood Cemetery gate on Edgerton Ave.
She will be missed as a finer lady does not exist.
